Supersize Feature Beam used to stunning effect

Envelope façade specialists Systems Aluminium, working on the new Scottish Widows offices in Edinburgh, have called upon Midland’s based Architectural Metalwork specialist Metalline to assist in the design of the stunning fascia profile for the external façade of this iconic building.

The supersize aluminium profile is based on the manufacturer’s successful Feature Beam product, which is being increasingly specified to good effect by Architects and Contractors alike. Due to the complexity of the profile and the overall girth being in excess of 2000mm, Metalline manufactured the Feature Beam in three parts. This incorporated a capping piece at the top, a fascia piece to the front and soffit to the bottom. The three profiles were then secretly fixed using hidden welded studs to the rear of the fascia to give the appearance of one continuous uninterrupted profile. Finished in a polyester powder coating in gloss white, this supersize Feature Beam has added a completely different dimension to the building’s façade.

Manufactured in both aluminium and stainless steel, Feature Beam can incorporate various details to meet specific client designs, these include mitred and welded corners, to provide visually sharp lines. Where horizontal and vertical runs meet, complex cruciforms can also be created which add further aesthetic appeal to a building. Available in in a variety of metallic or plain colours, profiles can be finished polyester powder coated, anodised, PVF2 coated or polished.
