Metalline supplied and manufactured over 3000m2 of bespoke aluminium rainscreen panels which included large 4.0metre x 2.0metre panels featuring a 3D effect diagonal crease across each panel to enhance the light and shaded appearance of the façade. Each of these panels were finished and delivered in batch quantity to ensure continuity of colour. Working closely with Darling Associates and Glassolutions, Metalline produced a special bespoke support bracket to accommodate the 3D effect panels. These were pre-assembled in factory-controlled conditions to shorten installation time on site.

Metalline also supplied a range of aluminium interlocking soffits in varying lengths and widths that create an eye-catching feature to each of the 8 storey balconies.

Metalline has continued to invest in state-of-the-art machinery and has led the industry with having capacity to process material of up to 6.0metres, this includes a custom made 6.5metre vacuum bonding tent press, 6.0metre press brake and router beds. This investment has given Metalline the ability to offer solutions for designers and architects that previously were not available.

Metalline’s aluminium products feature heavily throughout the Quartermile development, most prominently with our specified Feature Beam and copings. The innovative production department was able to manufacture deep Feature Beam pressings through a combination of press braking and routering techniques. The coping profiles also provided challenges as they were particularly large with complex corner details, of which Metalline were able to assist at the design stage and manufacture the products to exact specification.

Featuring a dynamic combination of Gold Anodised Perforated UNITY TF panels fixed to the specially engineered ULTIMA 3 spandrel system, this project presented both aesthetic and technical challenges. The intricate perforated pattern of each panel seamlessly fits into the building’s design, transforming the entire facade into a work of art. This bold, innovative cladding solution not only enhanced the building’s visual appeal but also set a new benchmark for complex rainscreen systems.

The perforated pattern on the UNITY TF panels was carefully distributed across all sections of the building, giving the entire facade a seamless, interconnected look. The UNITY TF Through Fix Rainscreen System used in this project is a non-combustible solid aluminium rainscreen that is designed for both new builds and re-cladding projects. The system’s compatibility with either the CLAD-LINE CL1 or Floor 2 Floor Framing Systems made it a versatile and easy-to-install solution.

Behind the rainscreen, Metalline’s ULTIMA 3 insulated spandrel panels provided essential structural support and thermal performance. Available in both A1 and A2-s1,d0 fire-rated options, the ULTIMA 3 panels are constructed from high-density mineral wool insulation sandwiched between two aluminium skins. This design ensures that the panel meets both fire compliance and structural integrity standards while maintaining the appropriate glazing edge thickness for aesthetic and functional consistency.

The project aimed to faithfully reproduce the original design while incorporating a 25-year warranted non-combustible façade system for long-term durability and reliability.

Metalline’s UNITY A2 Secret Fix rainscreen system, known for its non-combustible cassette design and easy installation, was chosen to fulfil these objectives. The system offered numerous benefits, including excellent fire performance, UV resistance, and seamless appearance.

In addition to the chosen rainscreen system, the project incorporated Metalline’s UNITY A2 Through Fix panels. These panels, designed with a wood effect, maintained harmony with the original façade while offering benefits such as UV resistance, durability, and cost-effectiveness. By integrating these systems, the project ensured compliance, durability, cost-effectiveness, and ease of installation.

Metalline’s Technical Team collaborated closely with Starfish Construction to ensure a meticulous installation process for the replacement cladding. Extensive analysis, technical surveys, and fire tests were conducted to select the most suitable cladding products that would replicate the original design, blend with the surroundings, and adhere to fire safety regulations.

                Technical

The new façade system was meticulously designed, surpassing the performance of the previous system and complying with building regulations. The design considered factors such as U-Value calculations, condensation checks, and future-proofing the building against potential regulatory changes.

A distinctive feature of the project was the uniqueness of the property elevations, with no two panels of the same size. Each panel was individually painted with a unique coating to provide a weathered look, emphasising the attention to detail throughout the project.

Through the integration of Metalline’s UNITY A2 Secret Fix rainscreen system and UNITY A2 Through Fix panels, the project successfully replicated the original design, ensuring long-term durability and enhanced fire safety.

Metalline’s commitment to quality, compliance, and customer satisfaction resulted in a high-quality cladding solution that exceeded expectations.
